Change

The old saying, “Be careful for what you ask for, because you might get it” comes to my mind this evening as I am watching the news from places like Egypt, Bahrain, Yemen and Libya. These people have been oppressed for so many years or decades, that they are forced to demand change. We were put to a similar test here in the United States in our last Presidential election, and then again in the mid term election last fall. Although in most cases the situations are nothing alike, but we all have our own life experiences to deal with. It is all relative.

We all want the same basic freedoms in life. To be able to be thoughtful, creative, have the ability to make a living and feed our families. Nothing over the top. Sure, it would be great to have the riches of King Solomon, but sometimes money isn’t the most important thing.

Maybe our situations are similar in many ways? We were promised change and we seem to be getting more of the same, just packaged up a little differently.

The people in the mid east are looking for change. For now the people in Egypt seem to have won a small victory. The problem is they really don’t know what is yet to come. We can only pray that it will turn out for the better.

When you peel it all back, we are really in the same situation. We have leaders that are promising us this and promising us that. There is always way more to the picture that we will never know.

In the words of Ghandi, “Be the change that you want to see in the world”.

Change really does need to come from within. We are here for only a very short time. Our forefathers shed blood to gain freedom a little over two centuries ago. A lot of them paid the ultimate price, just like 365 people did in Egypt over the last three weeks.

To find peace and happiness is something that we or no world leader can put a price on. People are willing to risk their lives for it. Freedom is a very valuable possession.

We should not take it for granted, and we should not let it be taken away.
