Have you thought this thought? Why does life have to be so complicated when it comes to our beliefs?

“Peacefulness is a blessing…”

Today I gave a talk in San Diego and after the talk I had the pleasure of sharing some thoughts with two outstanding men that were at the morning meeting. My talk centered on the need for emotional communication in order to build trust. During the talk I touched on our belief systems and the need to become self aware about what we believe and more importantly, how we appear to others.

As we were talking after the meeting the conversation led towards their religious beliefs. This seems to happen often. I personally do not like to go too far out on that branch as it is not my desire to “convert” anyone from what they believe in. I simply encourage people to question what they have been told in their life and make sure they are well educated and strong in their beliefs. I feel that our spirituality and our religious beliefs are personal and they are not to be pushed on anyone. Most often they have been handed down to us at a very young age and we need to look at these lessons throughout our life to validate what we have been told. It really comes down to the strength of our faith and what we believe.

As we were talking I felt that the conversation had went in the direction of “oh-no, we had better back up a step”. We did and the conversation ended on a very positive note. I enjoyed meeting these men and I look forward to talking to them more in the future. What I did notice from the experience is just how fragile the belief systems of others are and how we need to be respectful and honor their beliefs, meanwhile cherishing our own.

We are all in this together and the need to be right has traditionally led to war, anger and much sadness. It is time for the world to wake up and realize that we are not the same. Being right is simply an act of the ego. Any great teacher of spiritual matters would re-enforce this as they never talked about the need to be angry and to kill  someone over their beliefs. If they did, one should question who they were and what their message truly was.

Treat others with respect and kindness. Don’t let your need to be right dominate your thoughts. Be at peace with your I Am and let it be.
